3 Ways to Make the Best of a Pandemic

Masks. Social Distancing. Restrictions.

This is not how I imagined my 20s. I remember weeks before the lockdown planning a Girls Trip to Miami. But here I am months into a pandemic that we thought was only going to last 2 weeks.

But how do we live life to the fullest?

Life doesn’t just stop because so much has changed. I don’t want to look back and think I wasted any time because we won’t get it back. This is it!

However. I am not willing to sacrifice the safety of my friends and family just for a good time. At the end of the day, we have to keep our distance in order to knock Corona out! And I am committed to doing my part. Here are 3 ways I’m still having a good time, while doing what’s necessary to stop the spread.

  1. Keep up your social interactions in new ways.

I remember way back when, if I ever missed my friends, I’d instantly start planning a trip to see them. The tough reality is I should not be meeting up with my friends. Instead, we Zoom, send handwritten letters, and constantly send pictures of what we’re up to. The key is to keep the contact going! It is so easy to feel alone during this time. Lord knows I’ve been there. But your closest friends are only a text, a call, a letter away and we have to make sure our communication skills are where they need to be to keep this up. If you’re really craving that face to face interaction, meet up in a place where you can sit outside and keep your distance. For example, a fire pit get-together, a drive-in, an outdoor market, etc. As the weather gets colder, we can adapt and make the best of it!

2. Read and Write.

What’s a book you’ve been dying to read but just haven’t had the time? Have you always wanted to journal but life has been in the way? At this time especially, it’s important to keep our minds occupied as to not focus on the negatives of this season. I’ve been writing a “book” for pure fun! It may never get published or read by anyone but me, but it’s a great escape. And BOOKS! Drop in the comments some books you’ve been reading or want to read. I’ve found some greats one Pinterest that I can’t wait to read! You can check out my boards on Pinterest @thepostgradsurvivalblog !

3. Get crafty!

The holidays are here and although everything is different, I still want to send my friends and family gifts. So, I’ve decided to hand-crochet pillows for them! I wanted to buy those chunky blankets that are so super cute, but they’re also so super EXPENSIVE and I’m balling on a budget. I decided I’m going to do it myself!... and then saw the price of yarn… and decided to make pillows. Much cheaper, less time, and still just as cute. There are so many different kinds of crafts you can try from home. And with most stores offering curbside pickup, you can skip the crowds and get straight to crafting.

I hope these 3 ways to make the best of this pandemic bring some joy to you! The holidays usually mean alot of travel and time with family, and to not be able to do that is heartbreaking. But there is no need to wallow to the sad, when there are so many things to do to bring in the joy!
